Celebrity Traitors star Romesh Ranganathan has spoken out after his wife, Leesa, was targeted with vile abuse by online trolls, branding her a “race traitor” simply for marrying him. 
While the 48-year-old comedian noted that receiving racist messages has sadly become a daily reality for him throughout his career, he revealed that a troll recently targeted his wife’s personal Instagram account, leaving her deeply upset.
Romesh shared the cruel message and his tongue-in-cheek advice to help lighten the emotional blow: “My wife, Leesa, someone messaged her on Instagram and said, ‘You are a race traitor because you married one of them. You are no longer welcome among the whites.’ She was incredibly upset, and I said, ‘Here’s my advice: look at our house.
“You’ve come over to the dark side, and it’s working pretty f***ing well for you. Cry those tears into the swimming pool.'”
Despite finding humour in the situation, the comedian admitted feeling guilt over the fact that being associated with him made Leesa a target, remarking: “I am the reason that Leesa received that message. She is upset now because she is married to me.
“That’s not a nice thing to contend with. She also wouldn’t have a pool.”
Speaking on his Wolf and Owl podcast with Tom Davis, Romesh also revealed that his three sons, Alex, Theo, and Charlie, have encountered racist remarks at school, noting that such prejudice is clearly taught at home and explaining that he teaches his children never to let slurs push them toward violence or hand power to abusers.
