The Amazing Race 39’s Dafina and Saran Dunmore Reveal Their Actual Closest Allies — And They Weren’t the ‘Boss Ladies’ (Exclusive)

The sisters also get into the extent of Dafina’s hamstring injury, and how much it affected the rest of their race

Pack your bags, because The Amazing Race is back! Every week, Parade’s Mike Bloom will bring you interviews with the team most recently eliminated from the race.

The Amazing Race 39 editors were certainly investors in the “bestors” of Dafina and Saran Dunmore. The sisters had a knack for being able to get into danger, yet pulling themselves out of it just in the nick of time. We got our first taste of this on the opening leg, when the two agreed to work with Daisha Wilks and Dalton Hamby, only to soon after pull out their Express Pass on the final task to guarantee their safety. Their struggles continued in Spain, as they fell into the back of the pack while failing to identify local icons. But their frustrations extended beyond themselves, as they were feeling a certain way towards the other members of an all-women’s alliance that had formed hours earlier, especially when they didn’t receive the help they expected

As much as Dafina and Saran hadn’t found themselves in the front much, their race got quite literally hamstrung when Dafina got injured in Morocco. Luck was on the sisters’ side, however, as they then immediately received the “Roadside Assistance,” a power that let both team members complete the Roadblock. And they put it to great effect the very next leg, helping during a critical shoe search to survive the Scramble. As the race headed to Albania, Dafina and Saran began to slide down in the rankings like slick vineyard mud. But, thanks to Saran’s baking skills, the two were able to bounce back, being comfortably in the middle of the pack heading to the Pit Stop. All of the teams, however, had been struggling with the first self-driving leg of the race, especially navigation. And for Dafina and Saran, it proved fatal. The two got so lost that they once again fell into last place, saying “GG” to the self-proclaimed “G.”

Now, out of the race, Dafina and Saran explain their race-ending navigational troubles, the extent of Dafina’s injury, and their thoughts on the “boss ladies” alliance (and who their closest allies actually were).
