Ruth Langsford heartbroken as she announces sad death of dog ‘with a heavy heart’

Ruth Langsford has paid tribute to her “beautiful” dog Maggie, who she adopted with her ex-husband Eamonn Holmes, as she announced her sad death aged16.
The 66-year-old adopted the border collie cross from a Dogs Trust rescue centre in 2011 with her broadcaster husband at the time. Ruth confirmed Maggie’s passing in an Instagram on Wednesday (October 14) and said it was “with a heavy heart” that her beloved pet had “gone to sleep forever”.
The former This Morning presenter and Loose Women star shared a picture of Maggie smiling with a chew toy shaped like a champagne bottle, along with an emotional message.

Writing to her 1.1 million followers, she said: “It is with a heavy heart that I tell you our beautiful Maggie has gone to sleep forever. She was 16 years old and sadly this was her time. Her passing was painless and peaceful and we were with her until the very end.”

Ruth added: “We are so thankful to have had her in our lives for 15 years… she gave us so much joy & unconditional love. We will treasure our memories forever. Rest in peace our beautiful girl.”

The touching tribute was quickly flooded with messages of support and sympathy. Loose Women co-star Kelly Brook said: “Awwww Maggie. I’m so sorry.” Hits Radio host Gemma Atkinson commented: “Sending lots of love, Ruth. Beautiful Maggie.” Singer Mollie King shared: “Ruth I’m so so sorry! I know how much she meant to you. Sending you SO much love.

Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid replied: “Oh this is so so sad. So sorry Ruth.” Coronation Street actor Jude Riordan wrote: “I’m so sorry Ruth, run free Maggie and say Hi to my Ruby.” Friend and TV star Lucy Alexander added: “Beautiful Maggie. Devastated and will miss her coming out to join us. Ruth you were the best owner & gave Maggie so much love.”

Ruth and her ex-husband Holmes announced their split in 2024, but the GB News presenter has previously revealed they “shared custody” of their beloved pet.
Eamonn, who has mobility issues due to severe back pain and suffered a stroke earlier this year, wrote on Instagram last year that Langsford “does all the hard stuff” with Maggie because of his “wheelchair restrictions”. He also expressed hope to adopt another rescue dog in the future, and praised his pet in the post by saying she “changed my life”.
