At just nine years old, Lily never understood why her mother always warned her not to sit on Grandpa George’s lap.

He had always been kind to her. He kept chocolates in the refrigerator, welcomed her with a smile, and seemed like the calmest person in the family.

But something had changed.

Whenever Lily got too close to him, her mother became unusually nervous.

Then one Sunday, Lily ignored the warning and sat on Grandpa’s lap.

He leaned toward her and quietly whispered:

“Can you sleep beside me tonight?”

Lily immediately sensed that something was wrong.

When her mother learned what Grandpa had said, she became frightened and pulled the car over. Later that night, she called Lily’s aunt and quietly said something that made Lily even more confused:

“I knew this day would come.”

Then, around 11 p.m., Grandpa arrived at their home.

He wanted Lily to come with him.

Her mother refused.

But after an emotional conversation, everything changed. Her mother eventually took Lily to Grandpa’s house.

Instead of leading them to his bedroom, Grandpa took them to a small enclosed porch.

Two mattresses were waiting on the floor.

Beside the window stood an old telescope.

Lily stared at everything, completely confused.

Then she asked:

“What is this?”

And what Grandpa said next would finally explain why her mother had been warning her for so long.

At just nine years old, Lily never understood why her mother always warned her not to sit on Grandpa George’s lap.
