In November 2017, 26-year-old Desiree “Desi” Gibbon traveled to Jamaica, where she was staying at her grandmother’s hotel in Montego Bay. A model and aspiring filmmaker from New York, Desiree was enjoying time with family when her life was suddenly and brutally cut short.

On the night of November 27, 2017, after sharing a Thanksgiving meal with relatives, Desiree told a hotel security guard that she was stepping out and would return shortly. She left at around 11:27 p.m.

It was the last confirmed interaction anyone had with her.

When Desiree failed to return, concern quickly turned into a desperate search. Family and friends spent the following two days trying to find her, hoping she would somehow come home safely.

Their worst fears were confirmed when her body was discovered in roadside bushes in Anchovy, Jamaica, roughly four miles from where she had been staying. Local reports said residents discovered the body early in the morning and alerted police.

Desiree’s death left her family devastated. Her mother, Andrea Cali-Gibbon, later spoke about the unbearable pain of losing her daughter and the brutality of the crime.

“She was a tough cookie,” her mother said, expressing her belief that Desiree fought to survive.

Nearly a decade later, the case remains a haunting tragedy for those who loved her. The circumstances surrounding Desiree’s disappearance and murder have continued to raise questions, while her family has remained determined to see justice for the young woman they described as loving, strong and full of promise.

For Desiree’s loved ones, the case is more than an unsolved mystery—it is the loss of a daughter, granddaughter and friend whose life ended far too soon.

In November 2017, 26-year-old Desiree “Desi” Gibbon traveled to Jamaica, where she was staying at her grandmother’s hotel in Montego Bay.
