She hoped the procedure would help her move forward after years of struggling with her weight and being bullied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, the young nursery worker would tragically never return home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A decision she hoped would change her life<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Morgan travelled to Turkey in January 2024 for a gastric sleeve procedure. The operation cost around \u00a32,500<\/strong>, considerably less than the typical private cost of similar surgery in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to reports, Morgan had experienced bullying about her weight from a young age. Her family later said she wanted the surgery because she hoped to feel healthier and happier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the operation, doctors at the Istanbul hospital cleared her to travel home just three days later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But according to her partner, Jamie Brewster, Morgan was already experiencing abdominal pain and a fever when they began their journey back to Britain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight suddenly turned into a nightmare<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Morgan became seriously ill while flying toward London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in Belgrade, Serbia<\/strong>, where she was rushed to hospital and admitted to intensive care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doctors performed emergency surgery and discovered a serious problem involving her intestine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medical reports later indicated that her intestinal wall had ruptured, causing severe infection and peritonitis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite doctors’ efforts, Morgan died on January 13, 2024<\/strong>, only days after undergoing the procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was just 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her family wanted answers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Morgan’s death raised serious questions about what happened before she was allowed to fly home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The surgeon who performed the operation, Dr Serkan Bayil, previously denied wrongdoing and disputed claims that the surgery had caused Morgan’s death, saying he believed she had suffered an embolism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, a later inquest examined the evidence surrounding Morgan’s death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In September 2026, an inquest concluded that Morgan died from peritonitis caused by a ruptured intestinal wall<\/strong>, with the rupture likely resulting from the gastric sleeve surgery. The coroner also said attempts to contact the surgeon had been unsuccessful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Morgan worked in a nursery caring for children with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her father, Richard Ribeiro, described her at the inquest as a passionate and caring person<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Morgan had travelled abroad believing the operation would give her a new beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
