China Is Bringing Humanoid AI Companions Into People’s Homes
Imagine coming home and finding a humanoid robot waiting to talk to you—not to clean your house, but simply to keep you company. 🤖
That idea is becoming a reality in China with UBTech’s new UWORLD U1 series, a line of humanoid robots designed around conversation, interaction, and companionship.
Unlike traditional robots built mainly for factories, the U1 is designed to communicate with people. The robots can hold AI-powered conversations, respond to users, and learn individual preferences over time.
UBTech says the system can recognize more than 20 emotional states. The machines are also designed with realistic skin, facial expressions, and human-like movements to make conversations feel more natural.
The technology is particularly aimed at people who may spend long periods alone, including older adults.
But the price makes the technology feel even more futuristic. The premium female U1 Ultra has been reported at around ¥880,000, while other models reportedly start at about ¥119,800.
When the U1 series launched in June 2026, UBTech reported receiving 13,361 orders, with deliveries scheduled to begin later in the year.
The technology raises an unusual question: If a robot can talk, remember your preferences, recognize emotions, and behave more like a person, how comfortable would you be having one living in your home? 🤖😳
