After 16 Years of Hiding, Coral Renaie Decided to Stop Shaving
For 16 years, Coral Renaie shaved her face every day—not because she wanted to, but because she feared how other people would react to her appearance.
Her journey began when she was just four years old. A dark patch appeared on her neck, and a stranger cruelly told her she needed to “scrub” her skin, assuming she was dirty. As Coral grew older, changes associated with polycystic ovary syndrome affected her appearance even more.
By the age of nine, she had developed noticeable facial hair. At just 12, she began shaving every day.
The razor eventually became a routine that lasted for years. Coral felt pressure to hide her facial hair and conform to what society expected women to look like.
But eventually, she decided she had enough.
Now 30, Coral has stopped shaving and allows her facial hair to grow naturally. Her beard has reached around 10 centimeters long, making her appearance impossible for strangers to overlook.
That visibility has come with challenges. Coral says she has experienced cruel comments, unwanted photographs and personal questions from people who feel entitled to comment on her appearance.
But she has also found acceptance from the people closest to her, including her boyfriend Illias, her mother and her nieces.
After years of worrying about how the world would see her, Coral says she finally feels comfortable in her own body.
Her message is simple: it’s just hair. ❤️
For Coral, letting her beard grow wasn’t simply about changing her appearance. It was about no longer allowing other people’s expectations to decide how she should look.
