At just nine years old, Lily never understood why her mother always warned her not to sit on Grandpa George’s lap.
He had always been kind to her. He kept chocolates in the refrigerator, welcomed her with a smile, and seemed like the calmest person in the family.
But something had changed.
Whenever Lily got too close to him, her mother became unusually nervous.
Then one Sunday, Lily ignored the warning and sat on Grandpa’s lap.
He leaned toward her and quietly whispered:
“Can you sleep beside me tonight?”

He wanted Lily to come with him.
Her mother refused.
