Isaiah Washington just confirmed the devastating loss his family has been quietly carrying for more than a year.

The former Grey’s Anatomy star revealed on Saturday, Oct. 3, that his wife, Jenisa Washington, died in June 2025 after suffering a massive hemorrhagic stroke.

“Yes … the rumors are true. My dear wife of 29 years collapsed suddenly on May 31, 2025, and passed away on June 9, 2025,” Washington wrote on Instagram alongside a black-and-white photo of his late wife. “It came as a huge shock to me and our entire family. She succumbed to a massive hemorrhagic stroke and never recovered.”

Washington, 63, who portrayed Dr. Preston Burke on Grey’s Anatomy, also used his heartbreaking announcement to urge others not to brush off potentially concerning symptoms. “Listen, y’all … some headaches are not just headaches or migraines, they can be much worse and a warning sign,” he wrote. “Get a brain scan if you can and take those headaches seriously.”
