NaomiBaker walked onto a Tyler Perry set worried about getting the role right and walked away with more confidence in herself.
Baker stars as Anika in Tyler Perry’s new Netflix drama #DoingLife, opposite Jay Reeves as Carousel. Anika is a single mother whose unexpected connection with an incarcerated man begins through letters and eventually challenges both of them to imagine a different future.
For Baker, however, something was changing off camera too.
She admitted that Perry brought out a level of confidence she wasn’t expecting. Once she began working with him, she said her guard dropped because she felt that he trusted her and believed in what she could do.
That trust helped her confidence grow throughout filming.
It’s a reminder of how much leadership can affect performance. Sometimes people don’t need someone constantly pointing out what they’re doing wrong. They need someone powerful enough to recognize what they’re capable of before they fully recognize it themselves.
Have you ever had somebody believe in you so strongly that it changed the way you saw yourself
